Recently, Professor Banks has traveled the country conducting workshops and seminars for, Verizon, the SUNY Student Assembly, the National Association of Campus Activities, BOCES, Anti Bias Task Forces, Town Officials and School Districts. He is renowned for his experiential teaching technique and integration of “Love” into his relationship, classroom, industrial and social trainings. Book his signature Workshop on Death and Dying called “I Saw No Light at The End of The Tunnel.”


Mr. Banks is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker of the State of New York in private practice with over 20 years of service to the community. He is also a certified Hypnotist assisting clientele with overcoming habits of smoking, weight loss, and phobias.


Professor Banks is currently functioning as The College wide Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs of Suffolk County Community College. As coordinator, his responsibilities include the college wide coordination of diversity initiatives, developing multicultural activities, workshops, trainings, and programs for awareness and sensitivity training. As one of the designated college advocates for underrepresented students, he also counsels on negotiating the college system.


As Associate Professor of Health Careers, Professor Banks has taught such classes as, Principles of Interviewing, Introduction to Psychology, Group Dynamics, Sociology and College Seminar. As Adjunct Professor at Dowling College, Professor Banks has taught, Cultural Anthropology, College Seminar, Social Welfare Policy, Social Work Practicum, Introduction to Social Work, Social Work Methods and Social Work Colloquium.

James W. Banks Reappointed Chair of Suffolk African American Advisory Council Title

Suffolk County Community College’s James Banks, college wide coordinator of multicultural affairs, has been reappointed as chair of the Suffolk County African American Advisory Board. Banks serves at the pleasure of the Suffolk County Executive to assist and ensure adequate services are provided to the county’s African American communities.

Banks also serves as the chair of the Southampton Town Anti-bias Task Force.
